Hummingbird Feeders are a delightful way to invite a buzz of activity and color into your garden while helping our tiny, feathered friends thrive. Here's a friendly and fun guide to ensure your hummingbird feeders are the talk of the skies, all while keeping the birds healthy and safe!

Choose the Perfect Feeder

Make sure it’s easy to clean! (pst. ours are dishwasher safe!)

Whip Up a Sweet Treat

Mix 1 part white sugar with 4 parts water to create a homemade nectar that mimics natural flower nectar. Avoid honey or artificial sweeteners, as they can be harmful to hummingbirds. Boil the mixture to eliminate any impurities, let it cool, and it's ready to serve!

Keep It Fresh

Change the nectar every 2-3 days, more often in hot weather, to prevent it from fermenting or growing bacteria that could harm the birds. Clean the feeder with hot water and a brush to keep it sparkling and safe. A little vinegar can help with stubborn spots, but rinse thoroughly afterward.

Hang It High

Place your feeder about 4-6 feet off the ground in a shady spot. This helps keep the nectar cool and gives the hummingbirds a peaceful place to dine away from predators.

Go Red, Not Red Dye

Though hummingbirds love red, there's no need to add red dye to your nectar. The feeder itself will do the trick in attracting them, and clear nectar is much healthier for their tiny systems.

Offer a Buffet

Besides nectar, plant a variety of flowers to provide natural food sources and attract more hummingbirds. They're particularly fond of tubular red and orange flowers like bee balm, salvia, and trumpet vine.

Be a Hummingbird Hero

By following these simple and fun steps, you get to enjoy the enchanting sight of hummingbirds flitting about and play a crucial role in their survival and health. So, hang up that feeder, whip up some nectar, and get ready for the hummingbird happy hour in your very own backyard!
